The 9 best Minecraft plugins in 2026

A bare Minecraft server works fine, but plugins are what make it yours. Below are the nine plugins you will find on almost every serious server, with why you would want each one. All are free and install with a single click through our plugin installer.

1. EssentialsX

The foundation almost every server rests on. EssentialsX gives you hundreds of commands Minecraft itself lacks: teleporting players, setting homes and warps, running an economy, handing out kits, muting and banning. Starting a new server? This is the first plugin you install.

2. LuckPerms

The standard for permissions. LuckPerms lets you define exactly who can do what: moderators who can ban, donors who can fly, regular players who can do neither. You manage it through a web interface instead of config files, which saves a lot of frustration.

Tip: pair LuckPerms with EssentialsX Chat and you can set prefixes and suffixes per rank in chat too.

3. WorldGuard

Protects areas from griefers. Mark out a region and decide what is allowed there: building, PvP, explosions, fire. Essential the moment your server is open to people you do not know personally.

4. WorldEdit

Building at scale. Copy, paste and move entire structures, fill areas with a single block or change whole biomes — all with a few commands. What takes hours by hand takes seconds here.

5. ViaVersion

Since Minecraft moved to year-based versioning in 2026 with several game drops a year, players end up on different versions more often. ViaVersion solves that: people on a newer client can still join your older server. Saves you a lot of "I can't connect" messages after every update.

6. Vault

Not a plugin you use directly, but one many others depend on. Vault connects economy, permission and chat plugins so they share the same data. When something will not work, a missing Vault is often why.

7. LWC Extended

Lets players lock their own chests, doors and furnaces, and decide who else gets access. On a survival or SMP server this prevents a lot of arguments about missing items.

8. Dynmap

A live map of your world in the browser — a bit like Google Maps for your server. Players see where they are and what has been discovered; admins see where people are building.

9. AuctionHouse

An auction house where players list items and buy from each other using /ah. Works well alongside an economy plugin and gives a survival or skyblock server real depth.
