Assetto Corsa server hosting: content, sessions and why ping matters
An Assetto Corsa server is light on hardware but strict about what it expects: everyone joining needs exactly the same content. One person with a different track version cannot connect, or causes odd problems mid-session.
Content must match everywhere
With mods it is not just about having "the same car" but the same version of the same file. Work from a fixed list and share it with your drivers. Content Manager makes this considerably easier: participants can pull missing content automatically.
Building a session
A race is not one setting but a sequence: practice, qualifying and race, each with its own duration. On top of that you set tyre wear, fuel consumption, damage and whether pit stops are mandatory. That combination is what separates a messy evening from a proper race.
What your server needs
Assetto is modest on memory — the number of cars on track drives the load, and that is capped. 2 GB is ample for a full grid. What matters more is latency: in a racing sim you feel delay directly in the steering, so a server close to your drivers counts for more than extra RAM.
Getting started
At MC-Node Assetto Corsa runs from €3 per month, with a choice of locations so your drivers get a low ping.
